Dealing with the daily mail can become a daunting task. Here are a few simple tips to keep it from getting out of control.

  1. Make a commitment to sort through the mail immediately, every day. This way, it won't end up in a huge pile and important pieces won't get lost.
  2. Recycle unwanted catalogs and junk mail immediately. Limit yourself to the number of catalogs you keep to look through later - most stores have their full inventory available online anyway.
  3. Sort family members' mail and have everyone responsible for dealing with their own mail every day.
  4. Shred anything with personal information or account numbers on it.
  5. Create a file of bills to pay located in your home office or wherever you pay your bills. You can sort them by due date to avoid late fees or missed payments.
  6. Create an inbox for statements and other important paperwork to be filed; file these items once a week or when the box is full.
